Last week we asked readers to tell us their favourite IM chat service. The results show that most MakeUseOf readers prefer Google Talk (Gmail chat) over all other IM services.

The full breakdown of the 386 votes is this: 38% prefer Google Talk/Gmail Chat; 15% prefer Skype; 13% prefer Windows Live Messenger (MSN); 8% prefer Yahoo! Messenger; 5% prefer Facebook Chat; 4% prefer AOL Instant Messenger (AIM); 4% prefer using IRC; 3% prefer XMPP/Jabber (Other than Google Talk/Facebook); 1% prefer ICQ. Another 8% of people marked that they preferred some 'other' service. A few good IM chat services were mentioned in the comments, as were many multi-purpose IM chat clients.
